Mason Kogami

About

I transitioned into software engineering from the food service industry. I worked as a barista at Jamba Juice so providing excellent customer service while delivering speedy, quality products has become second nature. I studied pre-medicine in college but was very uninspired so I transitioned into software engineering and fell in love. I attended a bootcamp, App Academy, that gave me the skills, knowledge, and resiliency to be proficient in every aspect of my life including software engineering. Some more personal information about me: I am father to a beautiful daughter. I am a husband to an amazing, and beautiful wife. I spend a lot of my free time coding, however, I also like to spend time with my family. I am a foodie that likes to travel and explore the world to expand my food palette. Projects

Eventure - an Eventbrite inspired clone. Users can browse events, host events, and get tickets. Eventure is built with a React/Redux frontend, a Python/Flask backend, and supported by a PostgreSQL database. Future implementation includes: likes, Google Maps, AWS S3 images, and event categories.

Jello - a Trello inspired clone is a simple, easy-to-use collaboration tool that enables you to organize projects and everything related to them into boards. Jello is built with a React/Redux frontend, a Python/Flask backend, and supported by a PostgreSQL database.

SnackOverflow - a StackOverflow inspired clone with a theme of all things edible. Users can ask questions, post answers, and view their user profile page. SnackOverflow is built with a JavaScript/Pug frontend, aNodeJs/Express backend, and supported with a PostgreSQL database. Future implementations include: a light/dark mode toggle, and comment threads.

Skills

After attending App Academy, I can confidently say that I possess the abilities to succeed in almost every environment. My current stack includes JavaScript, Python, React, Flask, NodeJS, Express, and PostgreSQL. However, I am very coachable and I'm willing to learn any new language/library/framework/tool to provide the best utility to any team and further improve my overall skillset.

In addition to my technical skills, I offer many interpersonal skills from my customer and food service background. My biggest strength is my ability to work in a team. I have spent the last decade doing things in a collaborative environment such as working in group project settings in college, working with my fellow team member baristas to provide the best service and products, and pair programming daily throughout my time at App Academy along with group project settings as well.
